About

After owning the iconic Adams Avenue Bookstore in San Diego for over thirty years, Brian Lucas hosts these conversations on authors, theology, education, the practice of reading and anything else between the stacks.

Brian studied Russian and Eastern European Studies at the University of Michigan, followed by a year of graduate study in Munich, Germany. He subsequently earned his Master of Divinity degree in Theology at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California.

The Adams Avenue Bookstore, in business for 53 years, over 30 of which were under Brian’s ownership, featured books in over one hundred categories and, at its peak, featured over 60,000 volumes.  Located in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood, the store was also renown for its feline residents: Mr. Mulliner, Webster and Felixia who “worked” for years in the store together with Bartleby.

After the store closed for good in 2018, Brian took some time to reflect and decided he’s just not finished discussing books. There may be something more to learn right around the corner.
